Sailing 101

In association with the Claytor Lake State Park, CLSA offers a Sailing 101 program.

Sailing 101 sessions are 2 hour sails on a small (<25') sailboat, typically originating from the State Park marina.
The sessions are led by volunteer members of CLSA and take place on either the CLSA club boat or a member-owned boat.

Sessions cover sailing basics, such as:
  • Parts of the boat and sail
  • Points of sail
  • Safety protocol and emergency procedures
  • Sailing terminology

Sailing 101 is a great way to get an introduction to sailing and Claytor Lake!

Sailing 101 is not intended to be a comprehensive lesson and participants receive no formal certification. Participants who enjoy their experience may opt to seek out further sailing education, join CLSA, or even purchase their own boat...

How does it work?
  • Let us know you are interested by filling out and submitting the form below
  • Someone from CLSA will be in touch with contact information for your Sailing 101 volunteer so you can communicate directly and schedule the session at the time and date that works best for you.
